Celebrating 30 Years of HarbourFest

Updated: Aug 30, 2018

Since 1988, HarbourFest has been a staple summer celebration for locals and visitors of Hilton Head Island. From Memorial Day to Labor Day, the all-summer long celebration takes over Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina with non-stop fun.

For 30 years, families and visitors have been taking in spectacular fireworks, donning the coveted spinning hats, dancing to live music, and more! Every Tuesday night throughout the summer, Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina springs to life with popular entertainment from crowd-favorites Shannon Tanner and Cappy the Clown.

Cappy and Shannon have been captivating crowds and entertaining visitors of all ages for as long as HarbourFest has been around. Cappy’s facepainting skills are beloved by kids who grow up returning to Palmetto Dunes year after year. Over the years we’ve seen fierce tigers, beautiful butterflies, and more!

The familiar sounds of Shannon Tanner always kick off the evening celebrations with a live concert that’s guaranteed to be one of the highlights of your trip. Kids have always loved to run up and party with Shannon and company as they play games during the performance. After each show, Shannon is all to happy to sigh tee shirts and hats. After all, you’re never too old to be his biggest fan!

Clowning around, music, or fireworks, what’s your favorite part of HarbourFest? We sat down with Shannon Tanner hear why he loves HarbourFest so much:

It’s clear from everyone involved, there is a certain magic to HarbourFest that keeps them coming back year after year. With all this fun, it’s no wonder HarbourFest has become a family tradition. We’ve loved spending warm summer nights enjoying music, laughs, and spectacular fireworks with y’all. Here’s to 30 years of fun and to 30 more!
